Blackburn with Darwen had some of the worst health statistics in the country, so the first stage of this two part public health campaign was to make the population aware of these ‘killer facts’. We felt that the statistics were so stark and strong that a direct and simple typographic approach was enough to communicate these facts clearly.

In phase two we reminded people of the hard hitting ‘killer facts’, but softened the approach with the use of colour and image, while creating emphasis on the local authority’s pledge. We also continued to ask questions about the community’s own actions and plans to improve their health and wellbeing.
