If you haven’t heard already I’m Sam the new Junior Graphic Designer recently joining the TPW team shortly after graduating from the University of Huddersfield with a 1st Class Honours in BA(Hons) Communication Design. After 4 years of studying in Huddersfield, I was offered the opportunity to move back home and over to the right side of the Pennines to begin my career in the world of Graphic Design.
After settling back into Lancashire I was soon off down to London for the D&AD New Blood Exhibition, an annual event which featured my work alongside some of the best creative and design graduates of the year. The Exhibition took place at the start of last month at the Old Spitalfields Market situated in the creative hub of Shoreditch.
I spent the full day taking in the abundance of great work, there was a diverse selection of creative talent on show with over 100 stands from over 50 university filled with clever ideas span across all disciplines, it was difficult to know where to look. I was impressed with many projects and there was strong concepts throughout with industry standard finishing. The stands that caught my eye where the London college of art and the University of Greenwich which both featured a great ability of capturing a brand’s narrative through clever advertising and identity projects.
My work which was on show at the Huddersfield University stand was my Final Major Project which involved me rebranding Three B’s real ale brewery in Blackburn. I created a new visual personality that reflect the owners’s passion for Real Ale, whist reflecting the local history and the textile heritage that once dominated the town of Blackburn. Central to the identity was a bespoke typeface that I created based on industrial typography based around the Cotton Mill period.
D&AD New Blood was an fantastic experience. I was really pleased to get the chance exhibit my work alongside the country’s finest budding talents.
